A smile for every poo

After a 3-month battle with Angel's constipation, I'm glad to announce that we can finally raise the victory flag for the month of September. *phew*

I can still clearly remember the drama and trauma from the whole experience. Well, apart from the 9-hour agonising battle with the sh** on that fateful night, Angel and I have even hugged the toilet bowl and wept together one day when nothing seemed to work. That was how bad it got. *shivers at the thought*

Now, she takes lactulose daily and we try to let her eat a balanced diet while avoiding an overdose of constipating food agents. I have also mixed another brand of formula into her daily intake which somehow seemed to ease the problem a little even though she has been taking the same previous brand since she was one.

Presenting to you Angel's POO-POO Calendar last month!

Yes, she gets a smiley face sticker every time she poos and that makes her ecstatic to go to the loo, for a change.

I can't tell you how grateful I am to see that she can now laugh on the toilet bowl. Best of all, she doesn't put up a struggle and we don't have to fight a world war every time she needs to poo.

BIG BIG BIG relief. I'm going to stock up more on these smiley face stickers because they indeed brought priceless smiles in my house.

May the joy of pooing continue!

  2. What a terrific idea! I'm just about to start potty/toilet training with my son this summer. How old is Angel btw? (just to help me put some context for adopting this idea)

    1. Hee cool! She's turning 3 next month. =) Started potty training when she was 1 year 10 months. =) I hope everything goes smoothly for you and your son, but don't give up if things get a little hard along the way! =) All the best!

    1. Haha. You just remind me, maybe I should have different colours for solid waste, LS etc. =) The colours don't mean anything except that she chooses what colour she wants to have that day and as you can see, I only have three colours left. =)

    1. Arghhh, I hope Noah gets past it soon too! It must be tough, especially for us who are living overseas! I couldn't understand any of the medicine labels here and it's tough communicating the problem to the Swedish docs!

    1. Hi Willyn, as far as I know adults can take lactulose too. But as always, you should check with your doctor or pharmacist when you purchase it. Some other mums provide valuable advice in the comments from my previous post, you can check it out too! http://www.ahappymum.com/2012/07/when-prunes-dont-work.html. Hope your problem gets solved soon! Good luck!

Ooh, I hope to celebrate and put a smile to the poo poo calendar like you too! Good for you and Angel. The irky constipation GO AWAY!
