Happiness is... loving what you do and doing what you love

You know how they say that in life, you must not only love what you do but do what you love too? Well, not everyone gets the chance to. Some people never get to do what they love and some end up not loving what they do. While at times it might be due to unforeseen or forced circumstances, more often than not, it is because we are afraid to make that first step, to pursue an underlying passion, to turn our lives upside down and have the courage to detour halfway along our life journey.

It felt the same way when I decided to quit my job and become a housewife and then a stay-at-home mum. I didn't know where life was going to take me, I didn't know if I would be happy, I didn't know if it was the right choice, I didn't know what future had in store for me.

Nearly six years later, I look back and can only be thankful that things happened the way they did. Somehow, I am one of the lucky ones who get to do what they love and love what they do. May was an exciting month for me, as a mum and as a blogger, I'll tell you why.

After recovering from those bouts of illnesses, we were eager to get our fun-filled weekends back and went exploring parts of Singapore that we had never seen before.

We lunched at Satay by the Bay and took a stroll along the boardwalk. I loved how cute the girls looked in their matching Hello Kitty polo dresses!

Along the way, we took pictures with statues, rocks, flora and fauna. It had been long since the hubby and I took a couple shot and I think Angel did a great job as our photographer!

It was the first time we visited the Far East Organization Children's Playround which seeks to combine nature and adventure and is suitable for kids from 1-12 years old. Look, we discovered that Ariel can now hang from the bar with both feet off the ground, woohoo! Way to go, darling!

The little sister also developed a signature pout - not a sulky, sexy but a super adorable one and a natural reaction whenever we ask her for a kiss. Frankly, I think she learnt it from me when I first taught her and now, I can't get enough of this face of hers. Thankfully, she is known to be very generous with her kisses and would kiss even our friends and extended family, including uncles and aunties she had never seen before. Me? I just make sure I kiss her 100 times a day, that's partly why I want to be a stay-at-home mum, right?

We finally brought the kids to the River Safari - Asia's first river-themed zoo and aquarium. Considering how much these two love animals, I guess it was a worthwhile bet to become Friends of the Safari.

After much procrastination, we finally tried out the Qi Wei Ji Bao 奇味鸡煲 near the famous Punggol Nasi Lemak along Upper Serangoon Road. There is always such a crowd despite that they have two stalls and it felt great to finally know why. The chicken soup was unique, flavourful and very yummy!

I also made it through my first race with my girl at the Cold Storage Kids Run 2014 held at Gardens by the Bay. Was it an achievement? Of course! Was it a milestone? You bet. Are we going to do it again? Till the day my legs fail me or I will continue to take her for more runs since she enjoys them so much. I see a potential future track and field athlete!

Oh, beside bringing the kids to different places and trying out different things, we also caught two movies this month - Spiderman 3 and X-Men Days of Future Past! Yippee! My friends always ask me how I do it with two kids, one being a 17-month-old. Well, if you do remember, we started her since young and Ariel has been with us in the cinema for over 10 movies already. It's all about training, trying and timing and if things go well, Ariel is going to love watching movies as much as her sister does and soon we will have not one, but two kids who can sit patiently in the cinema, sit back and enjoy the shows as much as we do.

See, life of a SAHM can be pretty exciting, right?

On the topic of blogging, I never did imagine how it would open up so many doors for me and I am deeply thankful to receive sponsorships, product reviews and be able to hold giveaways for all my dearest readers. One thing you must know, nothing will ever get into my passion of writing and no matter how the blogging journey turns out, I will always remain true to myself and put my heart into everything I write.

Angel got to attend a baking session, thanks to Canon Singapore for organising a family event where kids get to enjoy and adults get to mingle.

Besides mingling, we were also honoured to learn tips from Bob Lee on how to photograph our kids. I love how candid and spontaneous he is and how every of his shot has a story behind it.

I never expected that I would be invited to be a judge for a family event but it turned out that I received that honour. It was great fun watching every performance, going through every scrapbook page and seeing every studio shot of the beautiful families who participated. Thanks to Baby Singapore 2014!

Finally, after months of eagerly waiting, we also watched the final edit of our first ever TV commercial. Thanks to Canon and Reel Loco, there were some very precious moments captured on film that I will hold dear for life. It was also such an enriching and learning experience for us and I will share more behind the scene pictures and write-up with you soon!

Yesterday, one of my dreams came true when I met Nick Vijucic at his press conference. He has been one of the biggest inspirations in my life and I often use his story to motivate Angel to never give up and remind her that attitude is altitude.

One of the greatest gifts of blogging is that I get to make new friends and so do my girls. I'm not just referring to like-minded fellow mum bloggers, I'm also referring to readers who make the effort to write in, to contact me, to share stories with me and to even invite me for playdates. We had an awesome evening with a reader now turned friend and I still can't believe the thing that brought us together was this - A Happy Mum.

Last but not least, the month of May also means that the hubby turns a year wiser and guess what, today is Saturday and we are heading for our first sponsored staycation to celebrate as a family. Whoopee! Shall post more write-ups and pics soon!

Are you loving what you do and doing what you love too? I sure hope so!
