Creativity 521 #52 - A new 3D art experience with DohVinci {Giveaway}

I'm sure either as adults or kids, we have all heard of the world-renowned Play-Doh and experienced the wonders, and mess, it can bring.

This year, Hasbro will be taking it to the next level by introducing an entirely new art experience featuring a new design compound and an innovative Styler tool. In today's Creativity 521, we present to you the all-new DohVinci!

What we used:

1) DohVinci Flower Tower Frame Kit
- includes four-piece photo tower, add-on flourishes, Styler tool, star-shaped design tip and four DECO POP colours
2) DohVinci Pop-Ups Art Boards Assortment
- includes two die-cut art boards and three DECO POP colours
3) Wooden name carving

Firstly, we began exploring with the Flower Tower Frame Kit and Angel started to press out all the shapes which had been indented on the cards.

Once that was done, it was time to decorate! All you need to do is pop your favorite color into the Styler, grip the handles and squeeze to create your unique 3D art designs.

We realised that while it was very easy for Angel to learn to change the colours and put the canisters in place, it could get pretty tough for her to squeeze out the compound on her own, especially if she needed to make long and consistent lines or wavy and spiral patterns. Since this product is targeted for children aged 6 to 12, I guess perhaps she will need to master more strength and practise more before she can do the complicated patterns on her own.

Nonetheless, with some patience and help from me, she managed to finish the Flower Tower and moved on to making two cute Pop-Up Art Boards for her best friends.

The instructions on the kits were fairly easy to follow and you can just go along with the recommended colours and patterns or invent your own. There are also decorative tips that you can screw onto the Deco Pops to extrude fun patterns and shapes! It reminds me of piping a cake, something that I have always been interested but never been good at.

An amazing thing about DohVinci is that the design compound sticks to many kinds of surfaces such as wood, glass, duct tape, and paper, which means the creative possibilities are endless! You can decorate plain glasses, make patterns on windows, create 3-D cards or in our case, we decided to try them out on wood since we happened to have a wooden carving at home.

The craft session took us longer than expected as you have to be really patient when making the intricate details. I was quite impressed that instead of wanting to leave the rest till the next day after making the Flower Tower and Art Boards, Angel was still enthusiastic to move on and personalise her own wooden name.

You know what she was best at making? Well, dots, because that was the easiest for her squeeze out. So I let her have fun dotting away and she was really proud that she could do it on her own!

Although the instruction says that the compound will 'dry up overnight', we realised the next day that unlike the regular Play-Doh that becomes hard and brittle, the DohVinci compound seems to stay light and malleable. I think there are pros and cons to this and while one big advantage is that you can still adjust your designs and wipe away any unwanted areas, it also means your finished product must be taken care of properly and any weight or pressure will make the designs go out of shape.

In our case, with a curious 20-month old toddler in the house, it means she was pretty happy to discover that she could easily 'scrape' away the compound and destroy all of the big sister's hard work.

Anyway, it was a really fun first experience with DohVinci for us and we are proud to show you what we achieved! Voila!

I definitely think we are going to have many more hours of fun with DohVinci and like I always say, when it comes to creativity, the sky's the limit!
